*This arrangement does include string parts, but please note that the key signature is D-flat major. I know this is not a “string-friendly” key, but artistic integrity is important to me for this particular piece! Treat this as an opportunity to learn to play in new keys 🙂
Within your ensemble’s instrumentation, please try to assign parts as close to the SATB structure as possible (where S = Part 1, A = Part 2, etc.)
This piece was originally composed for SATB choir in 2017 and transcribed for concert band in 2018. The choral version features original text inspired by seasonal scenic imagery. The setting for wind band stays true to the pacing and character of the original, with added instrumental texture and colour.
TEXT:
The sun hides
low in the sky
igniting the forest
with rays of light.
The air lies motionless
until a gentle wind whispers,
disrupting this peace.
With this wind
dances a colourful melancholy,
painting the seasons
with brushstrokes of time.
Memories swirl
in this cool breeze,
though warmth lingers
in the arms of trees
holding on
until the last single leaf falls.
